AjaxBerlee 1.1 WordPress Theme

Please use the latest version!

A minimal, simple, crisp, clear and light 3 column design. This plugin independent theme highlights the excerpt of the latest article on the home page.

AjaxBerlee is based on the Brajeshwar theme, but it’s much faster and it comes with interesting AJAX features such as Instant Comment, Instant Search, Page and Image preloading and an article slider.

Changes

  • Loads of little code enhancements in the WP Ajax Connector Framework to make it more robust and better compatible with Firefox
  • Preloading of images when a visitor hover over an article link that contains images
  • Navigation on the front page (older articles)
  • Merged some of the code of Brajeshwar 7.2.2
  • Added support for some plug-ins… See TIPS in ReadMe.txt

Compatibility
AjaxBerlee Theme and the WP Ajax Connector Framework are compatible with WordPress:

  • WordPress 2.0.x
  • WordPress 2.1.x (tested up to 2.1.3)
  • WordPress-MU (tested up to 1.2.1)

Tested on browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6 & 7
  • Firefox 2.0.0.3
  • Opera 9.20

Please the latest version!

Common Problem!
It’s very important that you fill in the right WordPress and Blog address in the WordPress Admin Panel under options:
URL options in WordPress Admin Panel

While this sounds a bit obvious, when your site is www.berlee.nl please double check this value in the Admin Panel to see if it really says http://www.berlee.nl and not http://berlee.nl because that results in a unbrowseable website

Because of security issues Ajax request works only from the url that is configured in the WordPress Admin Panel.

This is a really nice, smooth theme. If you wouldn’t mind, could you point me in the direction of how you got that recent article links rotator at the top?

Thanks.

this is a nice theme. very neat and clean. :)

Jenny / May 4th, 2007, 8:08 pm

Thanx Jenny!

Rhett, the slider I made is in misc.js … and the info of what to slide, is in header.php (the array)…

Nico / May 4th, 2007, 8:43 pm

Too slow! Joke!

Manuel / May 5th, 2007, 6:12 am

nice ideas … but for rotating news, Jquery would be able to create a valid and non obstrusive similar effect :)

Rod / May 5th, 2007, 1:27 pm

Hi Rod,

Please read http://nico.berlee.nl/ajax-javascript-libraries/ on why Libraries are bad. Although 18 kb seems quite fair… It uses compression that will be unpacked by JavaScript itself on the client. This is a perfomance waste! The total amout of javascript on this blog is about 6KB… and its compressed using gzip during http transfer which makes the total of javascript send to the client about 2KB!!!
gzip is packed and unpacked on the fly….

Thats partly why this theme is so fast!

[...] nicest layouts created, although I can’t take all of the credit. This theme was based off of AjaxBerlee 1.1 Theme created by Nico (http://nico.berlee.nl). I’m very impressed by his coding/scripting [...]

Hehe thanks =) and I’m not just being a kiss ass xD I hope that through college I’ll learn just as much as you have =D

Random question, those the Ajax freeze sometimes? By that I mean sometimes clicking on the links, nothing happens at all and I have to refresh the page. Is that just some error I’m having?

GOOD THEME

KITTEN / May 10th, 2007, 2:37 pm

Great!

I’ve used this theme for my blog. It works fine in IE 6.x and later versions. However, it behaves differently in Mozilla Firefox 1.5.

Each local reference has the “/#/” added to it.

For example, in my blog the home page url is “http://www.diggreview.net”, but when I click on ‘Home’, it goes to “http://www.diggreview.net/#/”

Same thing with my other posts.

car-auctioneer / May 16th, 2007, 6:21 am

Actually its working corrently in Firefox than….

Let me try to explain, this theme normally (can be disabled in version 1.2, Wp-Admin ->Presentation -> Current Theme Options) is using ajax to load pages.
Ajax is a technique to load some data from a website using javascript without really leaving the page. Data is requested and just pushed into div’s (like col-main). So no real page load, and only data that is needs to be refreshed is send to the client… (not the whole page)

This leaves you with a problem when you want to bookmark a page. Since there is no way to know for the browser on which page you really are. That’s where the # kicks in… I can’t really change the url… but I can add an # to it and I can change everything after the #
In order to bookmark a page… The # and everything after it, is enough for the javascript to know how to put the page in the formal ‘state’.

Nice theme. I love it!

vijay / May 19th, 2007, 1:03 pm

I agree–I LOVE this theme–but I’m having the same problem as others with the #’sin the URLs. I’ve set the permalinks correctly but I am still getting 404′s–specifically on the rss feed page and any pages that link outside the site. (See “forums” for an example. ) Any thoughts?

Really nice work.

Pritam / May 29th, 2008, 1:51 pm

I used this theme one of my blogs for a while but ended up changing. Some of the template features seem to cause problems with various plug-ins and I also had the duplicate content on different URL # issue.

Great looking theme though but it really is not an SEO powerhouse theme.
