Features

Yet another LogonScript is …

  • Fully Skinnable – it’s easy to make your own company html skin
  • Language independent – the output language of a logon script can be user dependent
  • Flexible in executing or drive/printer connection – because of the use of active directory comment/description fields, you can define yourself as administrator to connect to a resource on User/Group/OU/Computer or even Computer Location or Office basis.
  • Fast – It only took 10 seconds to complete Yet another LogonScript through a VPN tunnel over the internet! And on a Test Domain Controller it took 1,5 seconds to complete. (Including connecting to 2 printers, and 3 network drives)
  • Good in Debugging / Traceback – When you click on the logo of the standard skin, a traceback area will pop-up. If that isn’t enough, just simulate the logon behind your own pc with the YaLS Simulator.

Yeah, Yeah….
What can YaLS really do?

Active Directory Integration

During a logon on a client, YaLS can do the following:

  • Map any driveletter to a networkshare
  • Place a shortcut in My Network Places
  • Connect to any shared networkprinter
  • Set any shared networkprinter as default
  • Connect to any shared networkprinter as LPT1
  • Execute a program or script
  • Execute a program or script on first logon
  • Remove all networkdriveletters
  • Remove all shortcuts in My Network Places
  • Remove all networkprinters (including the one mapped on LPT1/2 or 3)

All of the above can be denied or allowed on basis of one or more criteria below:

  • User
  • Office
  • Computer
  • Computer location
  • User Group membership (even nested or primary)
  • Computer Group membership (even nested or primary)
  • Weeks, days or Months
  • Times

These criteria can be in the description/notes fields of Active Directory:

  • User objects
  • Computer objects
  • Group objects
  • Organisation Units / Containers
  • Printer objects
  • Share objects

Wildcards can only be used on all YaLS user resource commands.

Skins

YaLS ships with two skins. A silent skin that only pops up if an error occurs,
and a fancy standard HTML skin, which can be in any language with the correct language modules.

This standard HTML skin uses an Internet Explorer window with a nice progress bar and displays the progress of the script with a task list.

Extra Administrative Tools

YaLS Simulator

The YaLS Simulator tells you, step by step, what is going to happen if the earlier specified user logs on to the earlier specified computer. It tells you whether if the user logon is succesfull or not and when errors occur where you can find them, all this in a few seconds. This utility is an absolute must-have for every administrator.

YaLS Summarizer

The first remark an experienced Active Directory administrator will make, after having read that YaLS uses description and notes fields, is:
“Yeah, then I will lose overview in no time.”

And you are probably right. This is why I created YaLS Summarizer. It will give an overview of all the YaLS commands within the domain.
